The Biblical story of David depicts courage, faith, and victory against overwhelming odds. David faces the giant warrior Goliath, who towers over him with weapons and intimidation. By all worldly measures, David is destined for defeat. But David approaches the battle not with fear, but with faith and conviction.  

Just as David faced a giant, investors today face their own intimidating force: the Wall Street Bullies. These “giants” take many forms – fear mongering, promises of beating the market, and the allure of chasing trends. But like David, investors don’t need to fight with the same weapons. Instead, they need the right mindset, training, and strategy.

Erected in 1961, the Berlin Wall represented more than just concrete and barbed wire – it stood for oppression, censorship, and economic stagnation under Soviet-style communism, separating people living under communism from those in free democratic societies. 

When the Wall fell in 1989, it wasn’t just the end of a barrier between two cities. It revealed the failure of a regime that could not provide prosperity, innovation, or freedom for its citizens. In contrast, it highlighted the strength of the ideals of the American Dream: liberty, free speech, and the flourishing power of capitalism and free markets. 

Inspiration Alley is a tribute to the visionaries, leaders, and dreamers whose lives demonstrate what is possible when human courage meets creativity.  

Here we honor the inventors who refused to accept limits and instead brought light, flight, and revolutionary technologies into being. We celebrate the storytellers and innovators who imagined entire new worlds and then built them for others to experience. We draw strength from the leaders who stood firm in times of crisis, preserving freedom, guiding nations, and inspiring hope where there was despair. We remember the dreamers and reformers who challenged injustice with moral courage, and the coaches who demanded greatness by showing that discipline, teamwork, and perseverance are the foundation of victory.

Each member contributes invaluable expertise that strengthens the pillars of Matson Money’s investment philosophy. Together, they ensure that the principles guiding our strategies are not based on speculation or opinion, but on evidence, research, and science.

In the same way, the science of investing has reshaped how families can approach wealth creation. Rather than relying on speculation, hunches, or the noise of Wall Street, the science of investing provides a disciplined, science-based framework rooted in decades of academic research. 

Founded in 1890 in Illinois, the Purington Paver Company transformed transportation by creating indestructible brick pavers used worldwide—from Bombay to Paris to the Panama Canal. These bricks paved the way for bicycles, automobiles, and cleaner, safer cities. At its peak, the company produced over 150,000 bricks a day, fueling innovation in roadways, commerce, and modern life. The pavers in the Matson Money West building honor this legacy of grit, growth, and progress – changing the world one brick at a time.

This lounge space is devoted to the vision and heart of the Matson Family Foundation, whose mission is to love one another fiercely and to change the world one kindness at a time.  

The Foundation embraces the belief that true change begins with how we treat one another. To love one another fiercely means to care deeply, to stand courageously for others, and to act with a spirit of generosity that refuses to be passive. To change the world one kindness at a time affirms that even the smallest gestures can create ripples that extend across families, communities, and generations.

This installation represents the strength and harmony of a well-diversified portfolio. Each wooden panel radiating outward symbolizes the many asset classes and investment dimensions that, when combined, can create resilience and balance. Just as no single panel alone can form the whole, no single investment can create lasting wealth.  

At the center of the dome is the core—coaching. Coaching is what unifies and anchors the entire portfolio. Without it, the structure risks collapse under pressure. The same is true for investors: without coaching to address the human behavior dimension, even the most sophisticated investment strategy can unravel.
