Top Takeaways From Matson Money’s Advanced Advisor Conference

Matson Money recently wrapped up our annual Advanced Advisor Conference in Orlando, Florida with ONE clear message: It takes an extraordinary team that can accomplish more together than individually.  As we came together as ONE, the world may never be the same and we want to share that message with everyone. Here are a few of our top takeaways from this year’s conference.

The American Dream is for everyone.

At Matson Money, we believe that the American Dream is not just for people in America, but it should be a global phenomenon and that the ideals of the American Dream can not only heal but unite us. We want to make people’s lives better, and for anyone and everyone to have the opportunity to recapture, reclaim, and realize their American Dream (while eliminating anything that can deter from this, such as speculating and gambling with their money). We can all come together as ONE.

Everyone should have a coach.

Having an advisor coach helps investors make prudent and disciplined decisions around their money. During the great recession of 2008 and 2009, people panicked and made disastrous decisions around their investments and their money – with many destroying their life savings. How many American Dreams could have been saved if that had not happened? When investors are coached to be disciplined and prudent over a lifetime, many American Dreams are possibly saved. Coaching allows people to make prudent decisions, keeping investors aligned to their life purpose and pursuing their dreams. During the conference, we were reminded that when we come together – becoming ONE team, playing together – we can transform the world.

Integrity. Loyalty. And standing together.

Brandon Tatum, author, former police officer, and co-founder of BLEXIT, took the stage on day one of the Advanced Advisor Conference and spoke about what it means to stand together as ONE. He then created the five pillars to being the best version of ourselves:

  • INTEGRITY. He reminded us all how important it is to have integrity and to ask yourself: In those moments when no one is watching, are we still choosing to do the right thing?
  • LOYALTY. Loyalty creates a sense of community and by being loyal to one another – by putting others first and letting them know you got their back – you become a team and a family.
  • COMMUNICATION. Conversing with people that you may not have ever conversed with before – discovering who they are and celebrating your differences – can make you a better person.
  • FIGHT. You will have to fight. There is always something going on in the world that you will have to fight for. Now is not the time to cower or make excuses. Now is the time to fight for what you believe in – like all families to have their American Dream.
  • STAND. And most importantly, don’t ever let anyone create a barrier that intentionally divides you. We all need to remember to stand together.

The Power of Community.

Did you know that the same part of the brain that feels pain, feels rejection? Steve Zaffron, CEO of Vanto Group, provided compelling insights into the power of community. When we are aligned on purpose, mission, and vision – the cornerstones of community – we are ONE. He went on to explain that community is a space where you can see and accept the world and being able to identify with a community allows you to be up to something bigger and achieve bigger things. He reminded us that Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.”

Why Matson Money?

Michael Lane of iShares U.S. Wealth Advisory at BlackRock and Mark Matson kicked off day two of the conference talking about the future of the RIA industry, the threat of cryptocurrency to investors, and what it means to have ONE economy. When the industry is potentially headed toward massive change and disruption, advisors can take heroic action to develop investors to be prudent and disciplined over an entire lifetime… and not panic. We were reminded that the foundation they laid as ONE team in 1994 is still relevant today. The session ended with Lane sharing his experience working with Matson Money for more than 25 years – and what you, too, can have access to:

  • Being part of the family
  • Amazing opportunities
  • Mutual respect and trust
  • Coaching and the ability to coach others
  • Create incredible relationships
  • Strong leadership, and the opportunity to be a leader
  • Consistent messaging
  • Always challenging and always transforming
  • Constantly and dynamically reallocating resources
  • Love

2 + 2 = 10

What is going to grow your brand? It takes the exponential power of cobranding, asserted Treya Klassen, founder and CEO of Design House Collective, in her presentation on cobranding. When you get companies together, it can create 10 times the value. Cobranding allows access to new markets, new geographic and demographic segments while delivering more value. Imagine creating more interesting and creative stories, providing even more value to investors. We can create together what none of us can create individually, as ONE.

If you aren’t reinventing yourself, your shelf life is short.

Rob Lowe, award-winning actor, producer, acclaimed author, and entrepreneur took the stage with Mark Matson to talk about the American Dream Experience and why now is ONE time to create the future of your dreams. They also had a powerful conversation about how the majority of people all want the same things for family, life, career, their children, etc. It’s the stuff on the edges that creates a divide. And as Rob believes, optimism is the cure for anything you want in life.

Take success and turn it into significance.

The conference closed as ONE aligned team with a final speaker who is a Heisman Trophy winner, author, and philanthropist – Tim Tebow. He reminded us all that in life, just like in sports, it matters whose team you are on, it matters who your coaches are, and that everyone has the opportunity to be a leader. Tim shared a compelling message on passion and leadership for long-term impact. “Leadership is not just about encouraging you to be successful, it’s about encouraging you to be significant and make a difference in others’ lives,” he said. “I believe that every single one of us is created equal – as image bearers – every single one of us has worth, purpose, meaning and significance. If you want to lead for the long-haul, it’s important to have passion but I believe it is more important to have compassion. Success is about you, and significance is about other people. I hope that you take your success and turn it into significance.”

Out of all the messages and takeaways from this year’s AAC, one thing is clear about who we are at Matson Money:  ONE aligned team united in our stand to cause something truly great – freedom, fulfillment, and love for all families, and creating the ideals of the American Dream as a global phenomenon. We thank everyone who attended this event and who made something this great possible.
